Ecomarathon «Caring for the Homeland»


Ecology is one of the principles of sustainable development, and this requires real steps towards reducing waste, conserving natural resources and preserving ecosystems. Sustainable development of the region is not only an increase in the set of measures aimed at preserving the environment and resources, but also continuous, constantly supported (renewable) development so that current and future generations of people use all natural resources to the fullest

1. GENERAL PROVISIONS


1.1. These Regulations define the goals, objectives, procedure for organizing and conducting a competition of environmental projects Eco-marathon “Tugan Zherge – Kamkorlykpen” / Eco-marathon “Caring for the Homeland” in Kazakh, Russian, English among students 7 , 8, 9, 10 grades (hereinafter referred to as the Competition) of general secondary education organizations of the Ulytau region, Karaganda region and Shu district of Zhambyl region (hereinafter referred to as the region). The organizers of the Competition are the Limited Liability Partnership “Kazakhmys Corporation” and the Public Foundation “The Charitable Foundation “The Ulytau Educational Foundation” (hereinafter referred to as the Organizers).
1.2. The objectives of the Competition are:
1.2.1. Stimulating research and educational activities of students in general secondary education organizations (hereinafter referred to as schools) in the region.
1.2.2. Raising public awareness about the importance of ecology and environmental protection.
1.2.3. Identification and support of gifted students from schools in the region with high research abilities and an interest in environmental issues.
1.2.4. Promoting the formation of the intellectual potential of the younger generation of the region and the Republic of Kazakhstan.

1.3. The objectives of the Competition are:
1.3.1. Formation of students' skills in project and research activities.
1.3.2. Supporting gifted children and increasing motivation to participate in international environmental project competitions.
1.3.3. Developing the ability to identify and solve environmental problems in your region using knowledge and a scientific approach
1.3.4. Fostering a value attitude towards natural resources, developing measures to preserve and improve the environment and ecology of the region.

1.4. Competition nomination:
Competition nomination - Ecological startup. These could be projects aimed at using the latest technologies for energy saving, recycling, landscaping school grounds and public places.

A prerequisite is that the startup project includes shares in the EcoVolunteers direction. These could be projects related to landscaping, cleaning park areas, and improving public areas.


2. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE COMPETITION

2.1. Students of grades 7, 8, 9, 10 of general secondary education organizations of the Ulytau region, Karaganda region and Shu district of Zhambyl region take part in the competition.
2.2. Participation in the competition is free.
2.3. Registration for the competition is carried out online.
2.4. Projects are drawn up in Kazakh, Russian, English (by own choice).
2.5. All participants are required to comply with the rules that will be presented for participation in the competition.
2.6. Format of participation in the Competition: team (5 students) with the obligatory participation of a scientific supervisor. One application must be submitted per school.


3. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

3.1. The text of the project must be written in one of three languages: Kazakh, Russian or English (at the request of the participants).
3.2. The presentation file must be in format (ppt, pptx). Number of slides – no more than 12.
3.3. The video presentation file must be up to 1GB in size and no more than 3 minutes long.
3.4. The presentation of projects that will participate in stage II will be carried out in the format of an oral presentation, no more than 10 minutes.

4. TERMS AND PROCEDURE FOR THE COMPETITION

4.1. As part of the Competition, members of the Jury will select projects that will receive funding within the framework of the provided prize fund to assist in the implementation of projects. Funding will be allocated based on the decisions of the Jury protocol.
4.2. The competition is held once during the current academic year from September 30, 2024 to December 20, 2024 and consists of several stages:

Stage I - Acceptance of applications and selection of projects (online format)
Works for the Competition must be submitted electronically in accordance with Appendix No. 1 by filling out the Google application form and providing a video presentation of the project idea. The evaluation is carried out by members of the Jury by filling out evaluation sheets. Members of the Jury determine the list of Competition projects that advance to the finals.
Application dates: September 30, 2024 to November 15, 2024

Stage II - Eco-marathon (offline format)
A visiting commission of members of the Jury awards the winners of the Competition with the presentation of certificates and the allocation of funding provided by the prize fund to assist in the implementation of projects.
Dates: from December 2, 2024 to December 11, 2024.

4.3. Project evaluation criteria:
Projects are assessed on a scale from 1 to 10 points according to the following criteria:
- Relevance and environmental significance for the school and the region;
- Student involvement;
- Benefits for school and society;
- Innovative and creative components of the project;
- Economic feasibility and efficiency;
- Quality of presentation and persuasiveness of speech.

4.4. The composition of the Jury, including the chairman, is determined by the decision of the Competition Organizers. The projects that receive the highest scores and are recognized by a majority of votes of the Jury members are declared winners of the Competition. The Jury's decision is final and cannot be challenged.


5. PRIZE FUND OF THE COMPETITION

5.1. The total amount of the prize fund is 30 million tenge.
5.2. Winning projects can receive charitable assistance of up to 1.5 million tenge for the implementation of the project, meanwhile, the amount of funding cannot exceed that specified in the application. The organizers reserve the right to increase funding for unique projects.
5.3. In each region, three prize places will be determined (1, 2 and 3).
5.4. All participants and scientific project supervisors receive certificates of participation.


6. FINAL PROVISIONS

6.1. The Competition organizers reserve the right to request additional information in order to ensure the most complete assessment of the application for participation.
6.2. By submitting an application to participate in the Competition, applicants express their readiness to take part in the preparation of their project and its implementation; copyright for projects created within the framework of the Competition is retained by the participants of the Competition.
6.3. By submitting an application to participate in the Competition, applicants express their readiness to take part in photo/video shooting for the use of the image in all advertising materials of the Competition, publication of filming material in various communication channels at the discretion of the Competition Organizers.
6.4. At the end of the deadline for the implementation of projects submitted to the Competition and received financial assistance, project teams guarantee the provision of full reporting on the completion of the project with the provision of a report and photo and video materials of the stages of project implementation, active work on social networks.
6.5. The operator of financing the Competition is the Public Foundation “The Ulytau Educational Foundation”.
